Kulles, Toivo (1918-1984). Old Tallinn. (1964)

Ink, gouache, and paper come together to form “Old Tallinn” (1964) by the renowned artist Toivo Kulles (1918-1984), a piece that captures the essence of Tallinn’s landscapes and townscapes. Kulles studied at the Tallinn State Art Institute of Fine Arts from 1944 to 1948 and specialized in monumental and book graphics. Measuring Lm 27, 3 x 37,2 cm with a mat of Km 20,3 x 30,1 cm, the artwork is signed lower right as “T. Kulles – 64.” This piece is a remarkable example of Kulles’ artistic prowess and a unique representation of his connection to his native city.
