Pihelga, Agu (1910 – 1998). Kivatši Waterfall in Karelia. (1968)

This exquisite oil on canvas painting titled "Kivatši Waterfall in Karelia" is a masterpiece by the renowned artist Agu Pihelga, dating back to 1968. Measuring 54 x 73 cm, it prominently features Pihelga's signature on the lower right as "A.Pihelga 68". The reverse side of the painting offers further insights, inscribed with "Agu Pihelga Kivatši kosk Karjalas õli, lõuend 1968. 54 x 73". Pihelga graduated from the State Art Industrial School in 1934 and was mentored by R. Nyman and A. Jansen. He further honed his skills in Helsinki between 1936 and 1939 under the guidance of W. Lonnberg. Agu Pihelga’s career spanned decades, teaching at the Estonian State Art Institute from 1946 to 1980. Elevated to the position of assistant professor in 1961, he was notably influenced by the impressionist style, often showcasing it in his landscape and cityscape paintings. Pihelga's remarkable works are housed in prestigious locations, including the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and the State Art Museum of Kyrghyzstan in Bishkek.

Strahhov studied at the Tshinvali Art School from 1963 to 1967 and at the Estonian SSR State Art Institute from 1971 to 1976. He currently lives and works in Tallinn. A member of the Estonian Artists' Union and the Estonian Russian Artists' Association, Strahhov has been featured in national and international exhibitions since 1975. His annual solo exhibitions have been held in galleries and exhibition halls in Estonia and abroad. His works are in private collections in the USA, Finland, Italy, France, Japan, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, and Estonia. Strahhov's works, which skillfully create the impression of different materials and textures, balance conservatism and experiment, tradition and exoticism, expressive materiality and ephemeral border, contain elusive textures and meanings, never fully opening. He has appeared in more than 30 solo and group exhibitions.
