Pihelga graduated from the State Art Industrial School in 1934 and was mentored by R. Nyman and A. Jansen. He further honed his skills in Helsinki between 1936 and 1939 under the guidance of W. Lonnberg. Agu Pihelga’s career spanned decades, teaching at the Estonian State Art Institute from 1946 to 1980. Elevated to the position of assistant professor in 1961, he was notably influenced by the impressionist style, often showcasing it in his landscape and cityscape paintings. Pihelga's remarkable works are housed in prestigious locations, including the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and the State Art Museum of Kyrghyzstan in Bishkek.
