Heiki Kübar (1931 – 2004) was a renowned artist who completed his painting studies at ERKI in 1958. He received a solid realistic training, as evidenced by the painting "Theatre Artists" (1958) in the Estonian Theatre and Music Museum. The work at hand portrays the Soviet Union master athlete (1956), 5-time Estonian champion, 3-time Baltic republics champion, Moscow and sports association "Dynamo" champion (1952), boxer Lembit Maurer (1929 – 2006), who was from Narva. This portrait holds special significance from the perspective of Estonian sports history. The medium used is oil on canvas, with dimensions of 95.5 x 65.5 cm. The artist's signature, H. Kübar, is located at the bottom right of the painting.
