Arnold Alas – “Sügisene päev” (1959)

Arnold Alas (1911 – 1990) was a renowned artist known for his work "Sügisene päev" (1959). His art, characterized by large color surfaces and precise light-dark ratios, even with a relatively sparse color selection, is a testament to his mastery. Alas graduated from the State Art Industrial School in 1933, initially specializing in decorative painting. He later studied time and park design and taught the latter at ERKI. He also served as the head of the drawing department. Alas was a representative of the Tallinn school in Estonian painting. His work "Sügisene päev" is an oil on canvas piece, measuring 56 x 66 cm, and is signed "A. Alas 59" at the bottom right.

Pavel, Louis (1915 – 1977). Fish Smokers (1950s)

Louis Paul's "Fish Smokers" is a captivating artwork painted on cardboard, illustrating the nuances of the 1950s. Measuring 23 x 35, the piece carries an inscription on the reverse by M. Paveli Erakogust. Interestingly, the artwork is also titled "Kalasuitsetajad 1957", with an attribution to M. Pavel, the son of the artist.
