Otto Paas (1918-1987): Swedish Cityscape Artist

Otto Paas (1918-1987) was a talented artist who, due to circumstances in 1944, was forced to continue his creative work in Norrköping, Sweden. Despite being relatively unknown in the Estonian context, his talent is undeniable. He studied graphics at the State Applied Art School from 1935-37 and painting at "Pallas" from 1938-44. In 1954, he further refined his style and matured as an artist during a study trip to Paris. Paas has exhibited extensively in both Sweden and the United States, often in collaboration with Ants Murakin and Arno Vihalemm. His work, such as "State Road" (1971), an oil on masonite piece measuring 53 x 61 cm, best reflects his engagement with the Swedish cityscape and his ability to capture the delicate shimmering at the boundary of water and land.
Jaan Tuuling (1930 – 1998): “Metsatee II”

Jaan Tuuling (1930 – 1998) was a renowned Estonian artist, best known for his work "Metsatee II" from the 1950s. This piece, an oil on cardboard measuring 12 x 16 cm, is a part of the artist's family collection. Tuuling graduated from the Estonian State Art Institute in 1961, specializing in painting. He worked as an art teacher in a Tallinn school with an art bias and also as a commercial poster artist. A member of the Estonian Art Fund, Tuuling participated in numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally. His works are highly valued and can be found predominantly in private collections worldwide, including in Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, France, Finland, and the United States.
Evald Sagur (1922 – 1987): “Asalea potis” (1979) Watercolor Painting

Evald Sagur (1922 - 1987) was a renowned artist known for his mastery in watercolor painting. His work, "Asalea potis" (1979), is a testament to his skill and creativity. The piece, measuring 46.5 x 33 cm, is a watercolor on thin cardboard, signed on the bottom right as E. Sagur 79. Sagur completed his education at the State Industrial School in 1940 and later graduated from the Tallinn State Institute of Applied Art in 1950. He worked as a lecturer at ERKI and then at the Cinematography Main Administration. He began exhibiting his work in 1960, designed posters, and contributed as a designer to the Pioneer magazine. He was a member of the Artists' Union from 1962. His first solo exhibition took place in 1963 at the Sõprus cinema in Tallinn. Sagur's watercolor paintings, which he mastered, were often vibrant and decorative.
Strahhov, Anatoli (s. 1946). Pärnu laht (2020)

Artist: Anatoli Strahhov, born in 1946, is a renowned artist who studied at Tshinvali Art School from 1963 to 1967 and at the Estonian SSR State Art Institute from 1971 to 1976. He currently lives and works in Tallinn. Strahhov is a member of the Estonian Artists' Union and the Estonian Russian Artists' Association. He has been participating in national and international exhibitions since 1975. His annual solo exhibitions have been held in galleries and exhibition halls in Estonia and abroad. His works are in private collections in the USA, Finland, Italy, France, Japan, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, and Estonia. Strahhov's works, which skillfully create the impression of different materials and textures, balance between conservatism and experiment, tradition and exoticism, expressive materiality and ephemeral border, contain elusive textures and meanings, never fully revealing themselves. He has participated in more than 30 solo and group exhibitions. The artwork "Pärnu laht" is an oil and tempera on canvas, measuring 25 x 35 cm, and is signed by the artist in 2020.

Ojalo, Ilmar (1910 – 1989). Street. (1978)

Ilmar Ojalo's masterpiece, "Street" (1978), is an oil on canvas painting that elegantly captures the essence of the era. Measuring 81 x 65, the piece features Ojalo's signature in the upper right and the title and dimensions on the reverse. Ojalo's art education began in Tallinn and extended to Prague and Helsinki. From 1949 to 1958, he worked as a restorer in the Hermitage. This painting is not only a testimony to Ojalo's skill but also an embodiment of his rich educational background and professional experience.
