Etching on paper, this 32 x 39 cm piece titled “Karepa – Rutja” by Richard Sagrits is a striking embodiment of the “Pallas” school of art. Created in 1967 and bearing the signature “R. Sagrits” on the lower right, it also carries the inscription “Linool.1967” on the lower left. Richard Sagrits, a student of esteemed artists such as R.Nyman, G.Reindorff, N.Triik, and A.Vabbe, graduated from the “Pallas” Art School in Tartu in 1936. His landscapes and sea pieces have earned critical acclaim, and his graphics and monumental works unveil a vivid palette typical of his school. Sagrits’s art was exhibited in various cities including Riga, Kaunas, Rome, Budapest, and Moscow.
