This exquisite wood engraving, complemented by watercolours and hand coloring by the author, Johann Naha, beautifully captures the essence of Tallinn’s Tower Square in 1948. Measuring 20.4 x 26.3 cm, this piece encapsulates Naha’s artistic journey, reflecting his training in various European cities, including Paris and Berlin, and later at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. Following his graduation from the National Art School in 1929 as a student of G. Reindorff, Naha carved a path as a freelance artist, founding the Applied Artists team “decor” in 1928. After leaving Estonia in 1944, he became a prominent figure in the Munich Fine Artists’ Guild. This artwork carries an inscription on the lower left as ‘Went. Kolor.’ and on the lower right as ‘Joh. Naha’.
