Ernst Kollom’s “Tartu. The Stone Bridge (1937)” is a compelling wood engraving capturing the essence of city life in Estonia. Measuring 27 x 29.5cm, this piece beautifully represents Kollom’s artistic skills and passion for cityscapes. Born in Vyru in 1908, Kollom was educated at “Pallas” and the Moscow Art Institute, working in Tartu as a free artist and later in various editions. Since 1956, he has been renowned as a free artist, specializing in color engravings on wood and free diagrams, especially city kinds. Exhibitions of his work have been showcased in Tartu, Rome, and Budapest. This engraving, marked “Tartu kivisild” at the lower center and signed “EKollom 37.a.” at the lower right, is a valuable addition to any art collection.
