Peil, Voldemar (1907 – 1999). In a Court Yard of Farm. (1960-70)

Oil on canvas pasted on a cardboard by the renowned artist Voldemar Peil, depicting the evocative scene "In a Court Yard of Farm" from the 1960-70 era. Voldemar Peil, a student of I.Vahtra, V.Mellik, V.Ormisson, and A.Vabbe at the “Pallas” Art School in Tartu, has crafted this masterpiece with utmost intricacy and passion. His rich history includes work with Moscow and Leningrad theatres and various Drama Theatres in Estonia. In 1968, Peil was awarded the title of the People's Artist of Estonia. Besides being a stage designer, he also exhibited a keen interest in landscapes and portraits, with his works being displayed at numerous exhibitions. In 1978, a personal exhibition of his works took place in Moscow at the House of Scientists. This piece is not only a part of art history but a testament to Peil's extraordinary artistic capabilities.

The artwork is from the talented brush of E.Veydemanis, a Latvian artist known for his deep-rooted connections with Moscow, both through his studies and his life's work. E.Veydemanis, whose lineage carries an artistic legacy (with his father, Karlis, also being a painter), studied architecture in Latvia and delved into painting in Moscow. This particular attraction of the Yusupov estate was frequently captured by Veydemanis and earned him the Award of the Government of Moscow in 2003. This specific painting, showcasing his undeniable skill and love for the subject, carries the signature "E.Veydemanis" on the bottom left, and on the reverse side, a tag from Hudfond RFSR with the details "ARKHANGELSKOYE Manor. Yusupov" dated 1980.
