Victor Vasarély (1908-1997)

Victor Vasarély, born in 1906, embarked on his artistic journey when he joined the Poldini-Volkman Art Academy in 1927. Just a year later, he continued his studies at the Mukheli studio. During these formative years, he also honed his skills at the Bauhaus under the guidance of the renowned artist and photo theorist L. Moholy-Nayady.

Upon completing his studies, Victor relocated to Paris alongside his wife. The city of lights saw him venturing into the world of advertising, where he showcased his artistic talents until 1940. However, by 1944, he pivoted towards painting, marking a new chapter in his career.

The period between 1947 and the “Belle-Ile” era is particularly noteworthy. During this time, Victor Vasarély delved deep into the world of round and ellipsoid forms. Soon after, his move to Gordes further fueled his passion, where he began experimenting with perspective and the intricacies of three-dimensional space. By 1961, Anet-sur-Marne became his new home. This period saw him being honored with the title of professor at the Higher School of Applied Arts.

Throughout his life, Victor Vasarély was the recipient of numerous accolades. These include the Gold Medal of the Society for the Promotion of the Arts, the coveted prize from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and a special museum fund dedicated to his legacy.
