Vihvelin, Arnold (1892 – 1962). The Battle. (1950s)

Charcoal and coloured chalk on paper by Arnold Vihvelin, this exquisite piece titled “The Battle” was created in the 1950s. The art measures 48.5 x 49 and is signed “PA Vihvelin” in the lower right corner. The reverse is marked with “Plettenberg lahingus P.A.Vihvelin.” Vihvelin’s education began in Tartu from 1906 to 1909 under P. Myunhhen and in K. Raud’s Studio, and later he continued in St. Petersburg from 1910 to 1920. As a grant-aided student, he traveled to Vienna. He participated in exhibitions across Estonia, Russia, Germany, and Finland. This piece reflects Vihvelin’s unique style and mastery.
