Vahtra Jaan (1882 – 1947). The Lake. (1929–1933s)

This exquisite watercolour piece titled “Vahtra Jaan (1882 – 1947). The Lake. (1929–1933s)” is the work of the celebrated artist Jaan Vahtra. Measuring 24.5 x 33.5 cm, the painting reflects Vahtra’s mastery in both constructivist and cubist styles. A student at the Riga iArt School and later at the School of the Society for Promoting Arts in Petrograd, Vahtra’s influences include his studies under V.Shukhayev and K.Petrov-Vodkin. The first chairman of the “Estonian Artists Group,” he led the group until 1925 and his later works retained an analytic approach to form even after he abandoned the geometric style.
