€1100
This striking watercolour on paper, measuring 45 x 60 cm, is a vivid depiction of the Estonian Fishing Fleet in the Atlantic by the renowned Estonian artist Priidu Aavik. Created in 1964, this work exudes a strong sense of composition and color that speaks to Aavik’s refined artistic sensibility and dedication to his craft. Aavik is noted for his ability to turn compositional designs into standalone works of art. This piece, signed ‘P.Aavik 64.a.’ lower left, beautifully exemplifies this aspect of his practice. Aavik, a student of N.Triik at the “Pallas” Art School and later director at Tartu Art Institute, has further enhanced his talent and skills by immersing himself in the Parisian art scene in 1939. He served as the chairman of the Art Fund in Tallinn from 1947 to 1948.
