Etching on black paper by the renowned Estonian artist Olev Soans, this remarkable piece titled “The Sailing Ship” (1980s) measures 30 x 35.5 cm. A genuine autograph of the artist along with a note, “Noorus 1961/62” (as reproduced in the magazine), adorns the sheet. Olev Soans, a distinguished professor and senior lecturer, graduated from the State Art Institute of Estonia in 1951. Renowned as one of the most outstanding Estonian graphic artists of the 1950s, he began teaching at his alma mater in 1961. In 1979, he received the rank of senior lecturer, followed by that of professor in 1987. Soans created numerous maps on the history of Estonia using etching techniques and, in 1985, was honored with a prize in the name of Kristian Raud.
