Etching created by the renowned Estonian artist Olev Soans, presented on black paper and sized at Lm 30 x 35.5cm. This piece is titled “The Sailing Ship” and dates back to the 1980s. The sheet bears the author’s autograph and an exclusive note: “Noorus 1961/62” (the work is reproduced in the magazine). Olev Soans graduated from the State Art Institute of Estonia in 1951, and from 1961, he taught at the same place. He received the rank of senior lecturer in 1979, and professor in 1987. Recognized as one of the most outstanding Estonian graphic artists of the 1950s, Soans created numerous historical maps of Estonia using etching techniques. In 1985, he was honored with the Kristian Raud prize. This piece, “The Sailing Ship,” embodies his mastery and love for etching.
