This exquisite work of art, “Lasnamägi,” from the “Tallinn” series (1962/63), is the creation of renowned Estonian graphic artist, Olev Soans (1925 – 1995). The piece, made with soft varnish on paper, is an engraving representing the unique views of Tallinn. This art piece is a true testament to Soans’ mastery in etching techniques, being one of the most remarkable Estonian graphic artists of the 1950s. After graduating from the State Art Institute of Estonia in 1951, Soans shared his knowledge by teaching there from 1961 and attained the status of professor by 1987. His extraordinary contributions to the graphic arts were acknowledged in 1985 when he received the Kristian Raud Prize.
