He graduated from the commercial high school in 1941 in Pärnu and was mobilized into the German army during 1943-44. Olev worked as a worker and drawing teacher in Järvakandi from 1944 to 1946. He graduated from the Tallinn State Institute of Applied Art in 1946 and the Estonian Academy of Sciences in 1951. Later, he was a freelance professor and then a lecturer at the ERKI (professor from 1987), and a professor emeritus from 1994. A 1951 Member of the Artists’ Association.
