Having graduated from the State Art Institute of Estonia in 1951, he has since made significant contributions as an educator and artist. Soans taught at the same institute since 1961, eventually becoming a senior lecturer in 1979 and a professor in 1987. Known as one of the most outstanding Estonian graphic artists of the 1950s, he employed etching techniques to create many significant maps on the history of Estonia. In 1985, he was honored with the Kristian Raud prize. This particular work, “Arms Rakvere,” created in the 1970s, showcases his exceptional skill and innovative approach in the field of etching. A collector’s piece, it encapsulates a piece of Estonian history through the eyes of a master.
