Olev Soans (1925 – 1995) was an influential figure in Estonian art, known for his unique approach to etching. Graduating from the State Art Institute of Estonia in 1951, he later taught at the same institution, receiving the rank of senior lecturer in 1979 and professor in 1987. One of the most outstanding Estonian graphic artists of the 1950s, Soans created many maps detailing the history of Estonia using etching techniques. His work “Arms Antsla” from the 1970s exemplifies his mastery, and he was awarded the Kristian Raud prize in 1985. This etching on paper measures 42 x 30cm and embodies the rich history and cultural heritage of Estonia.
