Evald Sagur (1922 – 1987) was a renowned artist known for his mastery in watercolor painting. His work, “Asalea potis” (1979), is a testament to his skill and creativity. The piece, measuring 46.5 x 33 cm, is a watercolor on thin cardboard, signed on the bottom right as E. Sagur 79. Sagur completed his education at the State Industrial School in 1940 and later graduated from the Tallinn State Institute of Applied Art in 1950. He worked as a lecturer at ERKI and then at the Cinematography Main Administration. He began exhibiting his work in 1960, designed posters, and contributed as a designer to the Pioneer magazine. He was a member of the Artists’ Union from 1962. His first solo exhibition took place in 1963 at the Sõprus cinema in Tallinn. Sagur’s watercolor paintings, which he mastered, were often vibrant and decorative.
