Ridinger, Johann Elias (1698-1767).

This elegant etching on paper by Johann Elias Ridinger, one of Germany’s most renowned animal engravers, features a portrait of Peter Fedorovich, the Russian Grand Duke (1742 – 61). The image, with dimensions 24.8 x 33 cm, is beautifully detailed and carries Ridinger’s signature on the lower left plate, marked as “JERidinger inv. fec. et excud.” At the center of the plate, the text reads “Пётр Фёдорович, Великий Князь Всероссийский. Petrus Friderici Filius Magnus Dux Russorum.” Ridinger’s works, particularly of horses, hounds, and hunting scenes, are well-regarded for their Rococo stylistic tendencies and meticulous execution.
