Pulst, August (1889 – 1977). Old Tallinn. (1966)

Introducing “Old Tallinn” (1966), a beautiful watercolour painting on paper by the renowned artist August Pulst. The piece, measuring 68 x 50 cm, captures the picturesque scenery of old Tallinn, exuding a unique ethnographical touch. August Pulst’s training under the guidance of V. Purvitis, V. Tillbergs, and B. Borchert at Riga Art School during 1911-15 laid the foundation for his outstanding artistry. From working as a decorator at the theatre “Estonia” to collecting folklore and founding Estonian museums, Pulst’s artistic journey has been prolific. His landscapes, flowers, and views of old town, often featured in watercolours and oil paintings, have been exhibited since 1919. “Old Tallinn” is signed on the lower right by A. Pulst, symbolizing authenticity and a connection to a rich cultural heritage.
