Evald Okas, People’s Artist of the Soviet Union and full member of the USSR Academy of Arts, presents an exquisite ink on paper illustration from 1944. Measuring 22.3 x 19 cm, this piece showcases Okas’ mastery in artistry, a talent that has earned him various awards including six State Prizes of the Estonian SSR, the highest purchase prize of the Ljubljana International Biennial of Graphic Art, silver medal of the USSR Academy of Arts, the annual Kristjan Raud Art Prize, and the gold medal of the Exhibition of Economic Achievements of the USSR. Signed “E.Okas 1944” in the lower right, and “E. Okas 1944” on the reverse, this illustration is a significant example of Okas’ contribution to art, reflecting his training in Tallinn at the State School where he graduated as a painter.
