Experience a glimpse into the past with this remarkable monotype piece “Portrait of a Man” by the renowned Estonian graphic artist, Hando Mugasto. Known for his exceptional book designs and pioneering contribution to Estonian wood graphics, Mugasto’s monotype, featured here, dates back to the 1930s. With measurements of 39.5 x 30 cm, the work was presented during the student exhibition at the end of the Pallas Art School where Mugasto honed his skills under the tutelage of E. Viiralt and A. Vabbe. His first works were primarily linocuts in a Cubist and Impressionist style, and he later achieved fame for his xylographs, book-plates, posters, and still lifes. Mugasto was a Grand Prix laureate at the 1937 Paris World Fair, and his works were showcased in numerous exhibitions worldwide. This specific monotype is currently a part of the rarities collection at the State Museum of Estonia.
