An exquisite oil on canvas painting, “Still-life with a Beaten Bird” (1950s) by Hugo Lepik (1905 – 2001), measures 50 x 61 cm. Signed lower right by the artist, this piece reflects Lepik’s profound mastery over color and form. Having graduated from the State Industrial and Art School in 1929, Hugo Lepik’s journey as an artist led him to Germany, Italy, Finland, and Canada. He eventually emigrated to Sweden in 1944. His works, known for deep and vigorous coloring, often depict the Estonian landscapes and scenes from Sweden and Norway. In addition to landscapes, Lepik’s superbly painted portraits have also earned him recognition. His exhibitions span various cities including Riga, Kaunas, Antwerp, Rome, Budapest, Stockholm, Montreal, and throughout Sweden.
