Kimm Ilmar (1920 – 2011): A Journey Through Art and Education

Kimm Ilmar, a renowned artist, was born in 1920 and passed away in 2011. He completed his art studies in the I. Repin Art Institute in 1948, specializing in painting. From 1948 to 1951, he was a faculty member at the Tartu State Art Institute and from 1952 to 1988, he taught at ERKI in Tallinn (from 1954 as an associate professor, from 1965 as a professor, from 1963 to 1983 as the head of the painting department, and from 1983 to 1988 as a consulting professor). Kimm Ilmar has practiced all painting genres, with a particular focus on historical and work-themed figure compositions and portraits. His artwork “Rand” (1982) is an oil on canvas painting, measuring 54 x 73 cm. The signature “I. Kimm 82” can be found on the bottom right of the painting.
