€1100
This exquisite sculpture is crafted from patinated bronze, gracefully positioned atop a marble pedestal. Measuring 32 x 9 x 11, it is elegantly signed lower on the reverse with “F.Iffland”. This particular model can be found illustrated on page 1129, number 4505, in the acclaimed encyclopedia of sculpture, “Bronze, sculptors and founders” by Harold Berman. A rare piece indeed. Franz Iffland was a prominent German sculptor and painter active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Berlin in 1862, much of his early work reflected the jugendstil movement. However, by the mid-1920s, he transitioned to producing a range of art deco sculptures. Iffland’s artistic prowess was honed at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, where he underwent formal training. He passed away in Berlin in 1935.
