This exquisite watercolor painting, “Town Hall Square in the Winter” (1950s), by renowned artist Arnold Vihvelin, presents a vivid and atmospheric depiction of Raekoja plats, Tallinn. Measuring 38.5 x 48 cm, the piece showcases Vihvelin’s delicate handling of watercolors on paper, signed lower right as P.A.Vihvelin and noted on the reverse. Arnold Vihvelin’s education includes studying in Tartu under P.Myunhhen and K.Raud’s Studio (1906-1909), and St. Petersburg under notable artists V. Mate’ and A.Rylov (1910-1920). A grant-aided student, Vihvelin also had the opportunity to travel to Vienna. He participated in exhibitions across Estonia, Russia, Germany, and Finland.
