Alexander Tolstoy’s “Portrait of a Girl” is a captivating oil painting executed on masonite pasted on cardboard. Measuring 39,2 x 30 cm, the artwork is signed ‘A. Tolstoi’ on the lower right. Tolstoy was born in St. Petersburg and had a rich history of involvement in the civil war and later migrated to the Czech Republic. He received extensive art training from esteemed institutions in Prague and was a founding member of the Czech Union of Russian Artists. His acclaim reached the shores of Scandinavia, where he is recognized particularly for his nude and portrait works.
