Roman Timotheus (1895 – 1983) was a renowned artist born in Harjumaa. He began his artistic journey in Pihkva Algkool and Pihkva Kommertskool from 1907 to 1917, where his naturalistic drawings and painting attempts were noticed. He joined the Pallas Art School in 1921, but due to his long working hours at the factory, he could only attend evening sketching classes for one semester. From 1921 to 1928, he continued to draw independently in his free time. In 1928, he re-joined Pallas, where he honed his drawing skills under Voldemar Mellik, studied painting under Villem Ormisson and Nikolai Triik, and learned graphic techniques under Prof. Ado Vabbe. In 1932, he continued his studies in sculpture under Prof. Anton Starkopf. He graduated from Pallas in 1938 as Starkopf’s student and continued to work as a sculptor in Tartu. He participated in all major art exhibitions in Tartu and Tallinn and held his solo exhibition in Tartu in April 1959.
