Julo Sooster, an eminent figure in the world of art, embarked on his artistic journey at the Higher Art Courses between 1943-1944. He pursued further studies at the Tartu Art Institute from 1945 to 1944 under the guidance of E. Kits. 1944 was a tumultuous year for Sooster; he was arrested in November and subsequently incarcerated in a prison camp. Upon his release in 1956, he returned to Estonia. Later, Moscow became his home where he and his wife played host to the luminaries of the sixties – Yuri Sobolev-Нолев, Ilya Kabakov, Victor Pivovarov, and Ernst Unknown among others. Boris zhutovsky and Vladimir Yankilevsky stood out as his closest allies. His artworks have graced many cities, from Leipzig, Moscow, Prague to Cologne, Rome, Venice, and Washington.
