Soans, Olev (1925 – 1995). Mart Raud (1962)

Presenting a remarkable lithography on paper by the esteemed Estonian artist Olev Soans, dated 1962. Olev Soans, an outstanding figure in the graphic arts scene of the 1950s, was renowned for his mastery in etching techniques. This piece, titled “Mart Raud”, is one of his limited series lithographies, numbered 21 out of 30. After completing his education at the State Art Institute of Estonia in 1951, Soans dedicated himself to sharing his knowledge by teaching at the same institute. He later rose to the rank of senior lecturer in 1979 and eventually became a professor in 1987. Among his vast body of work, his historical maps of Estonia, created using etching techniques, hold a distinctive place. He was honored with the Kristian Raud prize in 1985 in recognition of his significant contributions to Estonian art.
