Olev Soans, an extraordinary Estonian graphic artist (1925 – 1995), created unique maps that portray the history of Estonia through his proficient etching techniques. A graduate from the State Art Institute of Estonia in 1951, Soans dedicated his life to teaching and art, receiving ranks of senior lecturer and professor in 1979 and 1987 respectively. His piece “Arms Sindi” (1970s) is an etching on paper, reflecting his masterful skill and innovative style. This work earned him the Kristian Raud prize in 1985, cementing his reputation as one of Estonia’s foremost artistic talents.
