Evald Okas, People’s Artist of the Soviet Union, full member of the USSR Academy of Arts, professor. He got his training in art in Tallinn, at the State School in 1938 – 1941, graduating with the diploma of a painter. E. Okas’ works have been displayed at exhibitions since 1939. His creative endeavours have brought him wide recognition, including the following award – six State Prizes of the Estonian SSR (1947- 1950, 1959, 1965, 1985), the highest purchase prize og the Ljubljana International Biennial of Graphic Art (1961), silver medal of the USSR Academy of Arts (1962), the annual Kristjan Raud Art Prize (1979), and the gold medal of the Exhibition of Economic Achievements of the USSR.
