Nigul Espe (1907 – 1970) was a renowned artist known for his exquisite watercolor paintings. This particular piece, “Talvine mets jõega” (Winter Forest with a River), was created in 1965 and showcases Espe’s mastery of the medium. The artwork is done on paper and measures 22 x 31. The artist’s signature, “Nigul Espe 1965”, can be found on the bottom left of the piece. Espe completed his art education in 1932 at the Tartu “Pallas” A.Vabbe studio. He was a member of the EKKKÜ from 1932 and the KL from 1945. He has exhibited his works in Estonia, Riga, Rome, and Budapest since 1929.
