Aleksander Mildeberg (1902 – 1977) was a renowned artist known for his unique style and technique. His work, “Vana Toompea” (1958), is a 2-color linocut on paper, measuring 35 x 21 cm. The piece is signed on the left as “Vana Toompea. Linool” and on the right as “A. Mildeberg 1958”. Mildeberg studied at various institutions including Saku Primary School, Jälgimäe School, Tallinn Art Industrial School, and the State Higher Art School. He was a member of the Artists’ Union from 1945 and worked as a photo correspondent for Rahva Hääl upon returning to Tallinn in 1945. He later worked as a freelance artist, creating portraits of cultural figures and scientists. Mildeberg’s work includes landscapes and city views, with a particular fondness for depicting motifs of Tallinn’s old town. He also illustrated books and drew caricatures, which were published in the magazine Pikker in 1946.
