Ilmar Kimm (1920 – 2011) was a renowned artist who specialized in various painting genres, with a particular focus on historical and work-themed figure compositions and portraits. He completed his studies in painting at the I. Repin Institute of Art in 1948. Kimm served as a faculty member at the Tartu State Art Institute from 1948-51 and at ERKI in Tallinn from 1952-88, where he held various positions including professor and head of the painting department. His work “Meri” (1982) is an oil on canvas painting measuring 43 x 51 cm, signed “I. Kimm 82” on the bottom right. The reverse side of the painting reads “Ilmar Kimm Meri – Pärnu mnt 1982.a. õ.l. 43 x 51 cm”.
