Julius Gentalen (1903-1966) was a self-taught artist and watercolorist, born in Viljandimaa. He received guidance from renowned artists Villem Ormisson and Ants Murakin. Gentalen also embarked on study trips to Austria, Germany, and Hungary. In the autumn of 1944, he emigrated from Estonia and from 1949 lived in the USA, where he taught art in his studio in Catskill, New York. He was known as a reputable cityscape and landscape painter. The artwork “Järvemaastik” (1930s) is a watercolor painting on paper, measuring 32 x 41. The signature “Gentalen” is located at the bottom right of the piece.
