Ilmar Kimm (1920 – 2011) – “Maantee” (1973)

Ilmar Kimm (1920 – 2011) was a renowned artist from Saaremaa. His work, “Maantee” (1973), is a beautiful oil on canvas painting, measuring 54 x 73 cm. The signature “I. Kimm 73” can be found on the bottom right of the piece. On the reverse, it reads “Ilmar Kimm Meri – Saaremaa maantee 1973.a. õ.l. 54 x 73 cm”. Kimm graduated from the I. Repin Institute of Art in 1948 and was a faculty member at the Tartu State Art Institute from 1948-51 and at ERKI in Tallinn from 1952-88. He held various positions including professor, head of the painting department, and consultant professor. Kimm was a versatile artist who explored all painting genres, but he was particularly known for his historical and work-themed figure compositions and portraits.
