Ilmar Kimm (1920 – 2011) was a renowned artist who specialized in various painting genres, with a particular focus on historical and work-themed figure compositions and portraits. He completed his studies in painting at the I. Repin Institute of Art in 1948. From 1948-51, he served as a faculty member at the Tartu State Art Institute and from 1952-88, he taught at ERKI in Tallinn (from 1954 as an associate professor, from 1965 as a professor, from 1963-83 as the head of the painting department, and from 1983-88 as a consulting professor). One of his notable works is “Põld rukkihakkidega. Maastik” (1951), an oil on cardboard painting measuring 25 x 46 cm. The signature “I. Kimm 51” can be found at the bottom right of the painting. On the reverse side, it is labeled “Ilmar Kimm Meri –Maastik 1951.a. õ.l. 25 x 46 cm”.
