Ernst Hallop (1908 –1980) was a renowned painter born in Gatšina and passed away in Tallinn. He studied under A. Vabbe at “Pallas” from 1926-34 and further honed his skills in England, France, and Italy. He then worked as a freelance artist in Võru, Tallinn, during the war in Chelyabinsk and Moscow, and from 1945 onwards, again in Estonia. However, he also embarked on long creative journeys to Russia, especially to its northern regions and Siberia. He mastered pastel and oil painting, chalk and charcoal drawing, and monotype. His preferred genres were landscape and portrait. His works have been exhibited in Viljandi, Riga, and Kaunas. The piece “Talumaja looduses” (1960) is a pastel on paper, measuring 32.4 x 45.7 cm, signed E. Hallop 60 on the bottom left.
