Painter Ernst Hallop was born in 1908 in Gatchina, died in 1980 in Tallinn. Studied 1926-34
at “Pallas” under the guidance of A. Vabbe. He improved his skills in England, France, and Italy. He then worked as a freelance artist in Võru, Tallinn, from 1945. He cultivated pastel and oil painting, chalk and charcoal drawing, and monotype, preferring landscapes and portraits among genres. He has a serious, slightly elegiac mood.
