Charles C. Ebbets (1905 – 1978). Lunch atop a Skyscraper, 1932 The Ney York Coll
€380
Charles C. Ebbets’ iconic photograph “Lunch atop a Skyscraper, 1932” is part of The Ney York Collection. Sized at 63 x 90 cm, it showcases 11 men eating lunch on a girder, 840 feet above the New York City streets. Captured on September 20, 1932, during the construction of the Rockefeller Center, this image is one of the 100 best photographs in the world of all time. Despite depicting real ironworkers, the scene was prearranged by Rockefeller Center for promotional purposes. In 2003, evidence from the Ebbets’ Estate archives confirmed his authorship, revealing original work orders, recommendation letters, and other artifacts linking Ebbets to this unforgettable image.
