950

This exquisite oil painting on wood, “Bust of a Bald Old Man,” is a masterful copy of the Rembrandt by Heinrich Breul (1889 – 1941), a renowned copyist from Kassel. The artwork, measuring 50 x 40, is authenticated by the signature “Re HBreul DT. Cop.1911” at the lower center and “Rembrandt. Der Mann mit der Glatze. Cop. H. Breul. Märtz 1911” on the reverse. Henri Breuil, educated at the Kassel School of Arts and Crafts and the Art Academy of Kassel, is a well-known portrait and landscape painter. The copy was done at the Old Masters Art Gallery of Kassel in 1911 and was even considered the work of Rembrandt himself for some time.
