This is an evocative self-portrait by the renowned artist, Adamson-Eric, dated 1942. Rendered in delicate sepia tones on light brown paper, this piece captures the artist’s introspection and mastery. The artwork measures 40 x 29.7 cm. Adamson-Eric, a stalwart in Estonian art, has left an indelible mark with his distinct style and aesthetic principles influenced by the French painting school. He pursued his studies at the supreme Art School “Pallas”, further honing his skills in Berlin at Scharlottenburg Art-Industrial School and in Paris under the tutelage of C.Guirin and A.Lhote. Living in Paris until 1932, he later began actively participating in exhibitions back in Estonia from the latter half of the 1920s.
