This 44.4 x 60 cm artwork is marked with “PA 64” on the lower right corner. Drawing inspiration from Aavik’s experience with the Atlantic fishing fleet and his reach to the coast of Africa, this piece showcases one of the rare African motifs in Estonian art of that era. With only four African motifs in his collection, the piece holds an exotic allure. Priidu Aavik’s art journey began in A.Lajkmaa’s studio, followed by his studies at Art School “Pallas” and working in various art institutions. His influence has been far-reaching, not just in his artworks, but as an educator and a prominent member in various art societies.
